Our Life Skills Curriculum

According to the congressionally mandated annual report, "The Condition of Education 2020," poverty affects a significant number of Black students, with almost one-third (32%) living in poverty compared to 10% of white students. Unfortunately, this economic disadvantage often hinders Black students from acquiring the necessary prerequisite skills to thrive in society. To address this issue, we offer life skills courses covering various essential areas, including health, business and personal finance, life skills, and college and career readiness. These classes aim to equip students with the information and tools needed to make informed decisions, navigate life successfully, and prepare for future opportunities. Students will learn etiquette, basic business concepts, situational awareness, as well as receive guidance in career development and college readiness. Our goal is to provide Black students with the knowledge and skills to overcome obstacles, pursue their dreams, and succeed in all aspects of life.

Personal health & Hygine

Preventable diseases and health conditions within the black community can be managed or avoided through proper personal hygiene practices. Our personal health and hygiene classes prioritize instilling key concepts of healthy habits among youth. The course covers important topics such as mental health, personal hygiene, nutrition, and common diseases and illnesses. By providing this information, we aim to address some of the leading causes of death in the black community, including heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, chronic lower respiratory diseases, kidney disease, and hypertension. Our goal is to empower students with the knowledge and skills to prevent these conditions and promote overall well-being.

Career and career

According to a recent report, African American high school graduates are found to be less prepared for college-level curriculum compared to students from other racial or ethnic groups. To address this issue, our college and career classes specifically focus on supporting African American students, providing them with the necessary tools and resources to enhance college readiness. Our curriculum emphasizes essential skills such as critical thinking, time management, study skills, and effective communication. We guide students in exploring various career paths, understanding college applications and financial aid, and building a strong academic foundation. Our goal is to empower African American students to excel in college and pursue fulfilling careers.
